JOB DESCRIPTION:

The IGTP needs a highly motivated NGS Technologist to contribute to accelerate the access to precision medicine in the field of cancer.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary and dynamic group integrated by academic researchers and a private entrepreneurship, based in the IGTP at the Can Ruti Campus in Badalona. The major goal of the project is the development of genomic tools, including both innovative wet lab methods and sophisticated bioinformatic tools, to analyze genetic and epigenetic variations in cancer and other diseases.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The applicant must have the following qualifications:

  • Wet-lab experience working with DNA/RNA related technologies.
  • Experience working with NGS and/or technology development.
  • Experience in a core facility, molecular diagnostics laboratory, or biotechnology. company is also a plus.
  • Previous experience in quality assessment is a plus.
  • Friendly, collaborative mindset, ability to multi-task and to work effectively.

The following items will be of value:

  • Higher degree training cycle in some field of life sciences or health.
  • It will be valued positive uyniversity degree in life sciences or related fields.
  • High organizational skills.
  • Very strong motivation and commitment, proactive mindset, getting-things-done attitude.
  • Written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Computational skills (Office, content management systems, etc.).

Persons with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 33 per 100, as accredited by the Spanish Autonomous Regions or the State Administration, or who have been declared to have a total permanent disability in a different profession through a resolution of the National Institute of Social Security, while retaining functional capacity for the completion of the tasks of the post will be positively considered.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific tasks will be:

  • Development and execution of complex library preparation protocols (manually and/or with automated systems).
  • Optimization and testing of new protocols.
  • Troubleshooting of technical problems in the sample preparation and sequencing workflows.
  • Customer support and productive interaction with researchers with diverse backgrounds.
  • Quality management and implementation of standard procedures.

The IGTP takes part in European Performance Science Night 2021

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) has participated in a ground-breaking event to bring art and science together for European Performing Science Night with results that left nobody indifferent. The Fundació Èpica la Fura dels Baus led the project which involved artists and scientists from the IGTP and four international universities.

Three groups from the IGTP took part: The Innovation in Respiratory Infections and Tuberculosis Diagnosis group led by Dr José Dominguez; the Viral Immune Evasion and Vaccines (VIRIEVAC) research group of IrsiCaixa, led by Dr Julia García-Prado and the Epigenetics of Cell Differentiation and Cancer group, led by Dr Miguel Angel Peinado. And an intensive and exhilarating process got underway. Starting in July, the scientists presented three of the seven challenges put to the workshop team. Researchers from each group joined artists and technicians who worked intensively for two weeks to produce a performance piece using the language of the Fura dels Baus.

Friday, 29 November 2019 – Research

W are one of the two groups at the IGTP participating in the workshop “Complex Systems” organized by the Èpica Foundation. The experience is a first for the IGTP and has meant that art and science have worked together to produce results for both of them. Èpica is a space for interdisciplinary learning and training for the performing arts run by the Fura dels Baus. The results of the workshop are based on research projects from the IGTP and will be shown this Friday and Saturday 29 and 30 November at the Èpica headquarters in Badalona.

JOB OFFER: EPIGENOMICS BIOINFORMATICIAN (ref. 2019/29) [CLOSED]

Main Responsibilities

The individual in this position will be responsible for computational biology and bioinformatics support of genome-scale projects using advanced genomic technologies including in-house developed NGS methods. The major goal of the project is the obtention of genome-scale maps of epigenetic variation in human populations and disease. The project is highly collaborative and provides the opportunity to interact with investigators in different disciplines, including computational and experimental biology.

Primary duties will include, but will not be limited, to the design and implementation of algorithms to map, annotate, integrate and organize data generated by next generation sequencing instruments, and  downstream statistical analyses and validation. Duties will also include data-mining on high-throughput data sets and development of tools for data analysis, integration and visualization.

Requirements

Background: PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biology,  Mathematics, or a related field. Experience in biomedical computing. Proven proficiency in the management of Biological Databases, programming languages (R, Python, etc.) and biostatistics methods is required.
